1 Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using SplitWise — including registering an account, signing in via Google or Facebook OAuth, or browsing the website at splitwise.space — you confirm that you are at least 13 years old and have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms. If you use SplitWise on behalf of an organisation, you represent and warrant that you have the authority to bind that entity to these Terms.

2 Account Registration & Security

To access SplitWise features, you must create an account using a valid email address and password, or authenticate via Google or Facebook OAuth. You agree to:

• Provide accurate, complete, and current information during registration
• Maintain the security and confidentiality of your login credentials
• Accept responsibility for all activities that occur under your account
• Enable email verification (OTP) as required for account security
• Notify us immediately at support@splitwise.space of any unauthorised access or security breach

We reserve the right to suspend accounts that violate these terms or exhibit suspicious activity.

3 Description of Service

SplitWise is a free, web-based Smart Expense Management System that provides:

• Expense Tracking — Log and categorise personal and shared expenses with multi-currency support
• Group Management — Create groups, invite members, and split expenses among participants
• Payment Settlements — Record and track payments between group members with balance calculations
• Smart Reminders — Set automated payment reminders with email notifications via Resend API
• Reports & Exports — Generate detailed PDF and CSV expense reports with charts and analytics
• Real-time Notifications — Receive instant updates on expense activities via Server-Sent Events (SSE)
• Multi-currency Support — Track expenses in multiple currencies with a preferred currency setting
• Support System — Submit and track support tickets for assistance with dedicated agent and admin portals
• OAuth Integration — Sign in securely via Google or Facebook without sharing passwords

4 Permitted Use

You agree to use SplitWise solely for its intended purpose — managing personal and group finances in a lawful manner. You must not use the platform in any way that infringes the rights of others, restricts their use of the service, or violates any applicable local, national, or international law.

5 Prohibited Activities

You expressly agree not to:

• Use SplitWise for fraudulent, deceptive, or illegal activities
• Attempt to gain unauthorised access to other user accounts, backend systems, APIs, or databases
• Upload, transmit, or distribute malicious code, viruses, worms, or harmful data
• Scrape, crawl, or harvest data from SplitWise without our express written permission
• Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the SplitWise software
• Impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity or affiliation
• Circumvent, disable, or interfere with security-related features of the service
• Use automated systems (bots, scripts) to interact with the platform without authorisation
• Abuse the support ticket system or send spam through any SplitWise communication channel

6 Intellectual Property

All content, design, source code, logos, graphics, and trademarks within SplitWise are the exclusive intellectual property of SplitWise and its licensors. This includes but is not limited to the user interface design, CSS stylesheets, JavaScript logic, API architecture, and brand assets. You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, modify, or create derivative works without prior written consent from SplitWise.

7 User-Generated Content

You retain ownership of the data you enter into SplitWise (expenses, group names, payment notes, etc.). By using the service, you grant SplitWise a limited, non-exclusive licence to store, process, and display your data solely for the purpose of providing the service. We do not claim ownership of your financial data and will never use it for advertising, profiling, or sale to third parties.

8 Service Availability & Modifications

We strive to maintain SplitWise availability 24/7 but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We reserve the right to:

• Temporarily suspend the service for maintenance, updates, or security patches
• Modify, update, or discontinue features at any time with or without notice
• Impose usage limits as necessary to ensure fair access for all users

We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of significant changes through the platform or email.

9 Disclaimer of Warranties

SplitWise is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis without warranties of any kind — express or implied — including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be error-free, secure, or available at all times, or that defects will be corrected.

10 Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, SplitWise and its developers, contributors, and affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages — including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, loss of goodwill, or business interruption — arising from or related to your use of or inability to use the service, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

11 Account Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or permanently terminate your account at our discretion if you violate these Terms, engage in prohibited activities, or pose a threat to the security of the platform or other users. You may also voluntarily delete your account at any time via the Settings page. Upon termination:

• Your right to access and use SplitWise ceases immediately
• Your data will be permanently deleted within 30 days (except as required by law)
• Provisions that by their nature should survive termination will remain in effect

12 Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India, without regard to conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms or your use of SplitWise shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation or, if necessary, through the competent courts of India.

13 Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify or replace these Terms at any time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you via email or an in-app notification. Your continued use of SplitWise after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. We encourage you to review these Terms periodically.
